Songs I Sang On Sunday (Pt.1)
12.1.2008CommentThe touring artist generally plays the same set of songs every night to a different audience. The worship leader plays a “different” set of songs to the same audience every week – “different” could be debated here considering most worship tunes are very similar, musically & lyrically, and sometimes completely interchangeable. I haven’t “toured” in about 8 years, however, this week I will play the same set of songs to a different audience. Yesterday, I lead worship at my church, Elevation, and this Wednesday night I’ve been invited to lead worship at Crossroads, just 15 min. up the highway. I’m excited about this, because one, I grew up in this church and was baptized there, and two, I have a ton of friends that have been going there along time.
So not wanting to make more work for me in the band, I decided to use mostly the same musicians, and just use the same set of songs for both gigs. Being a first-time guest, I wanted to keep the song pretty familiar, as to make it easy for people to jump right in and worship. Here’s the set:
Forever – Chris Tomlin
Jesus, Lord of Heaven – Phil Wickham
It Is Well With My Soul – Hymn
Everlasting – Brenton Brown
(Sermon)
Consuming Fire – Tim Hughes
Beautiful One – Tim Hughes
Forever, solid engaging opener, Jesus, Lord of Heaven, is a good song, I really like how the chorus doubles lyrically in rhythm near the end, good tension. Very worshipful moment singing & repeating out the outro, “Jesus Your love has no bounds” into the old hymn. Everlasting, is a popular up-to-mid tempo song in the right key. I prefer the Chris Tomlin version, shocking I know. The closing set tied in awesome to the sermon, with out really planning it. Love it when God orchestrates that despite our lack of conversation on the matter. The message was based on Psalm 63 about living as a passionate Christ follower. “stir it up in our hearts, Lord, a passion for your name”. One of my all time favorite bridges to lead. Hadn’t done Beautiful One in a long time, and it still puts a smile on peoples face. Which is a good way to leave the sanctuary. Thursday, I’ll let you know how it goes at Crossroads.
Any worship leaders out there, leading at 2 different congregations a week with some advice?
